Background

The Community Empowerment Strategy Division is leading an exciting and challenging agenda which is a top priority for the Secretary of State. Its objectives are to:

· Deliver the Community Empowerment White Paper by summer 2008;

· Support the development and delivery of new policies which have community empowerment as a goal or means to better public service delivery

The job will involve

  • working with policy colleagues to develop specific policy options that use new technologies and online tools to support communities in shaping their local place and services. This will include undertaking cost/benefit assessments for specific policy options
  • developing CLG’s role in using new technologies to promote community empowerment and building alliances across government with Ministry of Justice, DCMS, the Cabinet Office & other relevant government departments
  • using new technologies as part of the policy development process
  • advising on delivery models for the new technologies policies and identifying in particular how new policies would work with technologies and approaches already being tried

Essential criteria:

  • Demonstrable technical excellence and fluency in new technologies and online tools;
  • Extensive experience and understanding of policy making within central government
  • Strong oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent organisational skills;
  • Strong team working skills;
  • Ability to work with internal and external stakeholders

Desirable criteria:

  • Experience of working in/for community media
  • Comfortable and confident in interpreting research findings to draw out policy recommendations;

Salary: Grade 7 or £42,435.00 - £56,544.00 pro rata.

Full time or part time considered but must be in the office at least 3 days a week
